BASEMENT CLEANING
AND RESTORATION CHICAGO 773-885-8528
In
restorative basement
cleaning projects, there is more to just cleaning the basement than surface
cleaning. Sometimes replacement
materials are needed to fully restore a basement back to vibrant life and
usable beauty. Since mold, mildew, dirt
and debris can sit for long periods of time, seep beneath the surfaces of
porous materials, and cause underlying basement damage
to your property and belongings, it might be a good idea to replace some
materials and items altogether.
Things like
old boxes, spare drywall, extra slabs of wood like unused 2 x 4’s, old tile,
documents that have not been properly stored, old clothing, etc. can hold
moisture and house the beginnings of mildew and even mold spores. Unwanted bacteria and dirt tend to accumulate
and prosper in untidy environments where they thrive on the items aforementioned. It is always a good idea to periodically
rearrange or move these items and render a thorough vacuuming or cleaning of
the areas.
If the
drywall in the areas has been contaminated with mildew, mold or even other
substances of bacteria, it is important to replace these items, as surface cleaning
will only cause the bacteria to return at a more convenient time, and maybe
worse. The same can be said of various
types of flooring. If contamination or
accumulated dirt sits below these flooring materials, and humidity levels rise,
eventually they will surface and cause your basement to smell and have a musty
odor that permeates.
Another
danger area is a cracked foundation that goes unrepaired. Every time water seeps through from a rain or
a drain off, your basement becomes like a giant bowl where the water sits and
causes problems to your basement and everything in it. We call this water damage. This is where restoration basement services
would work wonders in saving your structure.
The excess water must be removed immediately.
Proper
draining and flow of piping systems in the basement can prevent backups due to
your plumbing system not working properly.
However, backups sometimes occur because of overtaxing the outside water
system due to heavy rains or flooding from
rivers overflowing.
Either way,
giving attention to these details when you have a basement can prevent a more
serious problem later. Your basement is
a force for good in your home. It stores
things, it can be a recreation area, it can be an office, it houses all your
larger systems like the furnace, hot water heater, sump pumps, etc. To keep the basement functioning properly
means not just basement
cleanup but restoring items that may need replacing on a systematic basis.
